Cedar

Cedar is a rural community just south of the City of Nanaimo. The area is largely composed of large acreages and farms with some development of more urban communities. Overlooking the water, Yellow Point has become a desirable area, with an array of upscale homes.

Grocery stores and shopping amenities are located in nearby Chase River, but you will find many local farms selling fresh eggs, meat, and produce through the year. There are some hidden gems in the neighbourhood for you to explore. For instance, the funky and iconic Calico Cat Tea House offers tea readings, and homemade food. For an upscale dining experience, try the Malhe House Restaurant. The Malhe House operates in a character home located in Cedar. In the heart of Cedar you will find the ever popular Wheatsheaf Pub, offering a good menu selection which includes homemade pizza and perogies.

The BC Ferries’ Duke Point terminal is in Cedar, offering service to the mainland. There is a good deal of waterfront property here, and the Cable Bay Trail leads down to the ocean gives access to the rocky beaches. Hemer Provincial Park is a wooded marsh land and has extensive trail network. Both are great for walking and exploring.

Schools are also a bit of a drive away. Cinnabar Valley Elementary and Chase River Elementary are not too far, but the commute to John Barsby, the nearest high school is longer. Barsby is also rated low for schools in the area.

With upscale waterfront properties, heritage style farmhouses, and everything in between, Cedar offers the whole spectrum. The best part is that you can have peaceful, rural living only 15 minutes from Nanaimo.
