Central Nanaimo

The real Benefits to Living in Central Nanaimo are that it is affordable and central to all the amenities. You can reach most of the city in less than a 15 minute drive, the transit service here is good, and there are lots of walkers around.

There are ample housing options here including apartment buildings, townhomes, and detached homes. There are lots of older well-maintained single family homes great if you’re first time buyers, or just looking to downsize. Yards tend to be large so if you’re looking to have a garden and don’t need a big house, there are plenty to choose from.

Bowen Park and Beban Park are great nearby amenities. Bowen offers and outdoor pool, picnic areas, trails, and playing fields. Beban Rec Centre has an indoor aquatic center, ice rink, wooded trails, sports fields, BMX track, and pitch and putt golf course, and the list goes on. Beban also hosts the annual Vancouver Island Exhibition Fair and the farmers market in the summer, as well as various events throughout the year.

Students of Forest Park and Quarterway Elementary Schools go on to Wellington High School and Nanaimo District Secondary respectively. The former is English public option and the latter is the English/French Immersion path.

The Nanaimo Hospital’s presence can be a nuisance for some directly nearby as ambulances and helicopters come and go, sporadically day and night. Residents located away from the main street are usually not bothered.
